The DuBois Dream hosted AAU youth basketball sign-ups and a pair of games on Saturday at the DuBois Christian School.

For the second weekend in a row, the Dream was able to host a full day of events in DuBois. Like last week, the organization began the day with an emphasis on youth basketball by hosting AAU youth basketball sign-ups. If you were unable to attend the event and have not yet signed your child up, registration for the AAU program will remain open through the end of the week (March 15- 19) and can be found at https://forms.gle/mwTd7CQwAmW3CXKF9

The games that followed the sign-ups were against the Chautauqua Hurricane of the PBL and Timothy Edwardz United, a non-league opponent. A limited number of fans joined the team for the games, which yielded mixed results for DuBois.

A slow start against Chautauqua doomed the Dream. The Hurricane doubled up the Dream in the first quarter by pulling out to a 20-10 lead after 12 minutes. DuBois came out stronger in quarter number two, where the score was 28-28, so the deficit remained at ten at the half. Chautauqua was able to earn a little more separation in the second half and emerged victorious by the final score of 99-84. The Hurricane was led by Daniel Mulamba and Travonta Gatewood, who recorded 18 points each. For the Dream, Albert Varacallo, III (19), Tony Acrie (15), and Cory Huff (13) scored double figures in the loss.

With an undesirable start to the day in the books, the Dream looked to rebound against Timothy Edwardz. The game was close throughout, but like the first game, a fast start proved to be too much to overcome. Fortunately, it was DuBois that started quickly this time. A 23-15 first quarter lead evolved into a 45-34 halftime advantage. The third quarter was played evenly until Varacallo nailed three-point dagger from half court as time expired. That helped set DuBois up for an 88-77 win. Acrie led the club with 21 points in the win, while Varacallo hit six three-pointers in route to 19 points. Huff (18 points) also helped lead DuBois to a victory. Malik Jenkins led the the way for Timothy Edwardz with 22 points in the loss.

The DuBois Dream would like to thank the DuBois Christian School for allowing the team to use the school’s facility and for the incredible hospitality over the weekend. In addition, the Dream wants to thank Penn Highlands and the Continuity Clinic for their support and staff at Saturday’s games.

With a 1-1 record on the day, the Dream moves to 3-5 on the season. The club will look to build off of Saturday’s results as the season winds down. The next DuBois Dream game is tentatively scheduled for the end of the month in Lancaster, OH.
