After a whirlwind end to the 2020 Season that saw the Dream’s Premier Basketball League and AAU & Youth Basketball Program shut down immediately due to COVID-19 health and safety concerns, the Organization is back and planning for an even bigger 2021 Season. With restrictions still looming, that has not stopped the Dream from planning for the upcoming 2021 Season. “The sports world is moving in the right direction now with all of the major sports leagues playing again, so we are excited to start gaining some more momentum heading into our fifth minor league basketball season,” DuBois Dream Player/Owner, Albert Varacallo III said.

The planning and discussions have not stopped since the Dream successfully hosted their 3v3 Tournament of Champions in July and August, and now the questions have turned to what the 2021 Dream Season may look like. “There is no doubt in my mind that we will have a Season, but it may look a little different than previous Seasons,” Varacallo said. “Our first priority will be the health and safety of everyone involved, but after that we will do everything in our power to get our fans back in the stands, because we would not be where we are today without them. There is no better feeling than playing in front of the hometown crowd.”

League discussions have centered around either hosting a shortened season or a “Tournament/Bubble” type format if a full regular season cannot be played. Team Owners are very optimistic though that things will clear up by the start of the 2021 Season. “We will make something happen as a League this Season that’s for sure,” Varacallo noted.

As far as the DuBois Dream 2021 Roster is concerned, Dream Fans can expect to see some familiar faces from previous Seasons, as well as some fresh faces they are looking to add from their upcoming Tryouts/Workouts and from the Private Runs they host on Friday Nights. “We just want to add the right type of player, who still has that desire to play at a high level and win, but also wants to help and be a part of our great community and causes too. Winning can happen on and off the court and we want to show that with our Team.”

There have been numerous players reaching out who want to play for the Dream this upcoming Season, however Coach Rick Homer has been keeping an eye on the right talent who will help with the chemistry of the Team more than anything. “Talent can only take you so far, but if you get five guys working in unison on the court, who all play to each other’s strengths, you can do some great things,” Coach Homer stated. “We were hitting our stride on the court after playing in front of a sold out crowd on Kids Night and we want to continue building on that momentum heading into this Season.”

When asked if the Team will continue to try and add and develop more talent locally Varacallo said, “We are always looking for local talent to play for the Dream. If you still have the desire to play competitively and at a high level after high school and college you now have that option. That was not the case 10-20 years ago in our area.” Varacallo continued, “I think the Dream has already had a huge impact on basketball in this area both on and off the court. I cannot wait to see how much better our team and our area is in the next five years.”
